New for 2009! Billy Corgan BC-1 Neck (DP225) and BC-2 Bridge (DP226) Pickups
When DiMarzio started working with Billy Corgan on the pickups for his signature Strat®, they sent him several models to try out. He liked the Air Norton® S in the neck, Chopper in the middle and Tone Zone® S in the bridge. After playing them on several gigs, he asked for some changes in the neck and bridge pickups. He wanted a deeper sound from the low strings without losing any punch, and he didn't want the sound to get muddy with high-gain amps. To do this, we lowered the frequency response of one of the the coils in each pickup just enough to boost the bass while opening up the mids. The end results are the pickups that are now in Billy's signature Strat®. They do exactly what he wants in humbucking mode, and he's found they work really well in split mode as well.

New!! DiMarzio True Velvet - Neck (DP175), Middle (DP175S), Bridge (DP176)
It's not difficult to make a vintage single-coil pickup that's clean and bright, but not so easy if you also want the high strings to sound sweet above the 12th fret. The True Velvet Neck Model was designed to make this happen by tuning the coil to a frequency range thats bright but not thin. DiMarzio combines this with a magnet stagger specifically designed to enhance string balance, which produces great clarity, even with full chords. The True Velvet Neck Model comes standard with hand-ground magnets and vintage cloth covered wire.
Recommended For: Neck and all positions
Tech Talk: The True Velvet is a further development of DiMarzio's Blue Velvet line. DiMarzio has retuned the basic frequency response to hone in on the strongest aspects of vintage single-coil tone. The best vintage single-coils emphasized a "sweet spot" where the sound is bright but not piercing. The True Velvet is tuned to this spot, making it equally effective for many playing styles, from the clarity of country music to the grit of Texas blues.

New!! DiMarzio Virtual Solo (DP420)
DiMarzio has combined the best qualities of the DiMarzio DP404 Virtual Vintage Solo and DiMarzio DP414 Virtual Vintage Solo Pro high output and a full, warm sound and pushed these qualities even further. Treble response is smoother, the lows are tighter, and there is more pick attack. Play hard, and the sound jumps out of the amp. Play softer, and the sound becomes cleaner and quieter. And of course, theres no hum.
Recommended For: Bridge
Tech Talk: The Virtual Vintage Solo and Solo Pro both have specific qualities Dimarzio likes a lot, but they felt the sound could be even bigger. Making the highs both fatter and louder without any loss of definition on the lows creates a bridge pickup that can sound both warm and intense, and the Virtual Solo performs equally well with clean and heavily overdriven amps.

New!! Area '67 (DP419)
The Monterey Pop Festival of 1967 was a watershed event in American music. When it was over, the world had heard and felt the sound of a Strat® in the hands of a master. Single-coils in 1967 were bright and very clean. And of course, they hummed. We've captured the classic bright and clean sound but totally eliminated the hum with our patented Area technology. We've also reduced magnet pull by 40% for improved sustain and clarity. The Area '67 has the chime of '60s pickups, and the 2 and 4 positions are light, bright and quack-happy.
Recommended For: All positions, especially neck and middle
Tech Talk: Strat® pickups in the late 1960s used full-strength Alnico 5 magnets. The patented magnetic field of the Area models is more efficient and focused than it is on "true" single-coils, which allows us to use Alnico 2 instead. There's much less magnet pull, but no loss of output. This is a major advantage in the neck and middle positions, where sustain and intonation can both suffer if the strings are exposed to strong magnetic fields. In the bridge position, the patented technology of the Area '67 produces a sound that's very bright but not brittle.

DiMarzio Area '58 (DP415)
There are two major differences between a great vintage Strat pickup and an average one: treble response and dynamics. A great pickup is clear and bright , but not thin sounding. And a great one makes the sound jump out of the amp when you pick hard and drop away when you play softly, and the tone varies when the string is picked at different spots. The best pickup that DiMarzio heard that was like that was from 1958 and that is what inspired the Area '58, with two major differences. DiMarzio's pickup has less magnet pull, and virtually no hum.
DC Resistance is 6.12 KOhms

DiMarzio Area '61 (DP416)
DiMarzio has been working on a serious vintage single-coil design with no hum for eight years. DiMarzio's goal has always been to capture the best qualities of pickups heard from the 1950s and early 1960s. They played several pickups from the early 1960s that had a unique tonality: they were steely, yet woody sounding. Naturally they wanted to nail this sound and they wanted to do it with no hum and less magnet pull.
This is it. It's good in all three positions and it's a perfect bridge pickup with a pair of Area '58s if you want to go all the way from Nashville to Texas in one guitar.
DC Resistance is 6.46 KOhms

DiMarzio Super Distortion S (DP218)
The Super Distortion S offers the performance of the famous Super Distortion® in humbucking Strat® bridge direct replacement-size pickups. DiMarzio has built in the same blend of power and tone that made the original Super Distortion® the world-wide standard for high-output humbuckers. They also tweaked the sound to take into account the fact that the Super Distortion S will be installed in the classic slanted bridge position. The new model has four-conductor wiring for parallel humbucking and split-coil modes, and makes a great bridge position combination with the Pro Track, Chopper and Fast Track 1.

DiMarzio Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2 (DP409)
The Virtual Vintage® Heavy Blues 2 replaces the Virtual Vintage® Heavy Blues and the VirtuAL 2® bridge model. Its a hot bridge pickup with a strong attack in the bridge position, and its Alnico 2 magnets allow it to work very well in the neck position as well, for players who want a very warm, round sound.
Recommended For: Bridge; can also be used in neck and middle.
Tech Talk:The same technology that allowed us to create the pure vintage Strat® sound of the Area 58 can also be used to design a much heavier pickup. The Heavy Blues 2 has more mids and lows while still possessing outstanding pick attack. This also makes it an excellent pickup for the arpeggios and sweep picking classical metal players prefer, because it does not become muddy even with high gain

DiMarzio Virtual Vintage '54 Pro (DP408)
The Virtual Vintage® 54 Pro uses the same ground breaking technology as our Area 58 and Area 61 pickups. The 54 Pro replaces the Virtual Vintage 54 and VirtuAL 2® middle pickups. It has a warm, smoky sound, fattens up when you pick hard, and has a special grade of Alnico 2 magnet to reduce string pull. And like all of the Virtual Vintage® models, its dead quiet.
Recommended For: All positions
Tech Talk: The major difference between the 54 Pro and the Area 61 is in pick attack. The 54 Pro has a fatter, woody tone, and the sound almost seems to compress when picked hard. Blues players favor this type of sound for the way it fattens up solos, particularly in the bridge position. Its also good in the neck and middle positions to warm up bright-sounding guitars.

DiMarzio Air Norton S (DP180)
The Air Norton S is the Strat® replacement version of the full-size Air Norton. Its warm-sounding, very well balanced, and has the same unique tonal characteristics as the original. The original Air Norton wasnt designed for a specific position or type of guitar, but its become most popular in the neck position of trem-equipped guitars for progressive music (thanks, John!). The S version is also a very good bridge pickup for all types of rock. Its combination of medium output and harmonic bite are very effective for single-note soloing as well as chords. Recommended For: All positions
